The 16-19 bursary is designed to enable students to reach their full potential by helping to cover some of the costs of accessing education such as transport, books or equipment.

A student must be aged 16 or over but under 19 on 31^st August 2022 to be eligible for help from the bursary fund in the 2022 to 2023 academic year.

There are two kinds of bursaries:

1. A VULNERABLE STUDENT BURSARY for those most in need of financial support:

• Young people in care or having recently left local authority care.
• Those receiving Income Support (IS) or Universal Credit (UC) and financially supporting themselves and/or a dependent (ie child or partner living with them).
• Young people in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in their own right as well as Employment Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit in their own right.

2. A DISCRETIONARY BURSARY The bursary is assessed individually according to need for students in need of financial support with costs to enable them to stay in education.

The bursary will be paid in termly instalments and will be conditional on the student maintaining good attendance. We will be expecting students who qualify to have an attendance rate of above 95% to guarantee full payment.

In order to ensure that the monies are distributed fairly we will require to see supporting documentation for household income such as P60, Tax Credit Award Notice, evidence of benefit awards or evidence of self-employment income. Please be assured that all such information given to the school in support of an application will always be treated in the strictest confidence.
