U18 Girls Football

U18 Girls FootballWell done to the U18 Girls Football team who beat a very strong side - Beauchamp College 3-1 in the National Cup despite going 1-0 down.

All of the girls played extremely well throughout, Great goals by Charlotte Lacy, Zoe Gretton and Tanisha Basra. They are now through to the last 32 teams in the Country.

YEAR 7 FOOTBALLERS START AS THEY MEAN TO GO ON ….

football 1Year 7 boys football has started well this year with only two defeats in their six matches so far and remain in two knockout competitions, the South Notts Cup and ESFA National Cup.

With so much interest in Year 7 and with over 70 boys attending the first two trials we had entered two teams into competitive competitions. The ‘A’ team so far have beaten East Leake Academy 5-2, Selston High 9-0, West Park 3-3 (5-4 on penalties) and Priory Ruskin 6-1 with their only defeat coming to a strong Brunt’s side who ran out 5-2 winners in the County Cup.

football 2The Year 7 ‘B’ team who were entered into the South Notts Cup lost to Toothill ‘A’ team earlier this week. A very tough game considering we had drawn an ‘A’ Team in round one! Well done to all who attend games and training, let’s hope we continue to improve after half term.

CELEBRATION OF THE ‘CARIBBEAN DAY’

DSC05348Last Friday the school suddenly sounded and looked far more vibrant than normal! As part of our Caribbean Celebration Day students were treated to 'some sweet vibes' in the Dining Hall from a steel drum band.

The area was decorated with island flags and a range of other craft activities took place—view here.

Historical displays were all around the hall. Students now know, after events such as the Thai and Indian days, that the kitchen staff outdo themselves for these events, so the lunch queue for the themed food was out of the door! The Jerk Chicken with 'Rice 'n' Beans' was 'brilliant'. Mr Kemp organised a range of activities on the field, including a well attended limbo.

Days such as this allow the school to maintain the conversation about how we can recognise diversity in a celebratory and fun fashion. Next up Australia Day.

First Responder Day

DSC05349Year 8 have taken part in an exciting ‘First Responder Day’ event spanning over two days, Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October.

This is the first time this type of day has been organised where outside agencies from emergency, responsibility and safety services come in and deliver sessions to the whole year group. Having secured the British Heart Foundation, Nottingham Fire Service, St John’s Ambulance, the RNLI, Road Safety and Public Transport it was always going to be an action packed day.

This proved to be right - the sessions were fantastic! Interactive, fun and informative. All the providers commented on how well behaved and mannered everyone was, but also said how engaging and responsive they all were which is brilliant.

There has also been an amazing response from the pupils themselves regarding this event, including: ‘it’s been a fun and interactive day’, ‘it has been enjoyable and something different where I have learnt a lot’ and ‘I now feel a lot more confident if I was in certain situations that we talked about today’.
